2018 BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING
Welcome to the Garden Club of Virginia’s 99th Board of Governors Meeting
Monday, October 15, 2018 through Wednesday, October 17, 2018
Historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia
The Garden Club of Virginia exists to celebrate the beauty of the land, to conserve the gifts of nature, and to challenge future generations to build on this heritage. The Garden Club of Virginia (www.gcvirginia.org) has 47-member clubs with a total membership of more than 3,300.
The Hunting Creek Garden Club welcomes you to “The Potomac: Our History, Our Future” at the Garden Club of Virginia’s 99thBoard of Governors Meeting on Monday, October 15, 2018 through Wednesday, October 17, 2018. Join us in celebrating the rich history of the Potomac River and its tributaries and explore what the future holds for this vital waterway.
The meeting will be held at the Hilton Hotel conveniently located in Alexandria’s Historic Old Town. Transportation will be provided to all events outside of the hotel but be sure to bring comfortable shoes if you plan on attending one of our optional tours.
On Monday evening, we’ll gather at the beautiful historic home of HCGC member, Ashley Wilson, and her husband George for cocktails. Then, follow the bagpiper or take the shuttle bus to the newly-constructed Old Dominion Boat Club on the banks of the Potomac River for the Dutch Treat dinner.
Tuesday morning brings the opportunity to explore two historic sites via two optional tours. Not far from Old Town, take a step back in time and learn about the importance of the Potomac River to George Washington and his Mount Vernon estate, or join HCGC member, Ashley Wilson, Chief Architect of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, for an insider’s tour of Pope-Leighey House, the only public Frank Lloyd Wright house in the region. View the recently installed Hunting Creek Garden Club gift of native plants to the Pope-Leighey landscape. Following your adventures, a buffet lunch will be served at the Hilton Hotel prior to the afternoon business meeting.
Tuesday evening’s GCV’s Awards Banquet will take place in the Hilton Hotel Grand Foyer and dinner will be served in the Ballroom.
Join us for continental breakfast on Wednesday morning before continuing the GCV business meeting. Be sure to grab a box lunch before you head home.
The Hunting Creek Garden Club members are delighted to be your hosts. We look forward to your joining us, and we can’t wait to show you all that Old Town Alexandria has to offer!
